In all workshops writers exchange their works share strategies and have the discussions vital to their craft, practices and the life of a writer of color.

In the residencies, the writers work one-on-one with their master faculty member and meet with the residency group.

I found a family at VONA. I arrived in Miami not knowing what to except, but
everyone was welcoming. Seeing so many writers of color at different levels and
full of passion and excitement was beautiful was reaffirming. I felt pushed,
encouraged, and supported. (miami 2013)

VONA was a transformative experience. My workshop instructor paid special attention to multicultural structures in memoir, as well as preparing for us for interaction with the mainstream in relation to our writing and writing style. (Summer 2012)
